from United fans tonight and yet Cesc, in the equivalent situation, would not?

they got very good money for him, replaced him and have hardly missed him

To lessen the applause.

Whatever about a chap's view on his departure, and I understand those who were annoyed at the deal, to boo the little lad would be daft in the extreme.

Depends wholly on the circumstances they left.

Making RvP type statements is a definite minus point. Didn't Nasri do something similar?

getting booed when he came back to highbury with nottingham forest.

make a jot of difference to the reception he'd receive.

seeing the special player we all knew he could be and then promptly f**king off to United

If a player keeps his head down and leaves quietly, without any parting shots etc, it will count in his favour when he returns. If he goes to ManU or Man City it will count against him. I'm guessing each fan builds a perception of that player during his playing time with us, then weighs it up against the manner of the departure and come to some conclusion about any future interaction with that individual.

I suppose it is like a break up

I doubt the injuries were of his own choosing.

Brentwood

because we couldn't resist the money for an old, injury prone player. He could easily have left saying he was sad to leave blah blah, always be an Arsenal fan, but he could understand why the club sold him and i look forward to trying to win things at my new club

Similar to Henry's approach

if we'd flogged him (as a few people said we should over the summer prior to his glorious final season with us) to United then I doubt many would have cared that much

When he clearly did not want to. We gambled on Walcott, there is nothing to say we would not have done on van Persie.

He simply wasn't having it.

I can't be bothered hating the lad, magnificent footballer.

even though he spent every summer saying how sh*t we were and he wanted to f**k off.

Why would United fans be pissed off. They got £85m for him. Our fans are clueless and boo Nasri even though he's the one player we actually got top value£££ out off.

If he was unhappy, which I doubt he is.

Brentwood

is the main thing that people hold against him

He definitely could have handled it better from a PR perspective, but then he probably wouldn't have been able to force us to sell him to the one club he wanted to join, rather than being able to get the best price we could for him

Why do you think Henry gets such a good reaction when he returns? Partially because he won things with us before he left, but also he said the right things that fans want to hear

mind you "Pep" has got a bloody difficult act to follow, can see him sacking it off quite rapidly if things don't start well

They're already an excellent side who will again spend big this summer while their main domestic rival look set to lose one of their star players (funnily enough to Bayern).
