Walcott made some good runs yesterday into dangerous positions - but the ball was never played forward to him by our midfield midgets - who instead preferred to make short passes sideways in an attempt to keep possession Barca style.
Giroud did get one decent pass through the middle that put him in on goal, but unfortunately he lacked the acceleration and technique to take advantage of it.
Wenger's tactics and duff defenders are the main reason that he's struggling to finish 4th this season ,even allowing for the lack of investment in the squad and the selling of top players to keep the books balanced.
Will spending 70m on new players change things?
Watch out for those dividends though that Stan refused to rule out paying himself , and others, when asked about it at the last AGM. If we qualify for the CL next season that is.

Stamp this possession based menace from our game!

I was referring actually to over elaboration in our passing game . A long ball to a striker making a forward run can often do more damage sometimes than a dozen short passes, with our players moving forward like an army of crabs on the march, with nothing to show at the end of it all.

midfield endlessly and on several occasions tried to pass through their back four and get Giroud and Walcott through on goal, but they defended very, very well.

I don't think you can accuse Wilsere or Cazorla of needless sideways passing. They are both hugely direct players, always looking for an opening.

instead it was all short passes that made life easier for the spuds defenders who as you say coped easily with it all.
Our only goal was scored from a free-kick - and even that was down to Mertesacker's header hitting Bale and deflecting in to the goal.

potential long balls over the top to Walcott that went wasted?
