I will ring up and outbid you.

About 200 yards from our current abode. You can see an Iceland at the top of the road from the front gate, though that is arguably an improvement on the KFC we can currently see.

Then they call us back today and tell us the buyers have pussied out, and if we up our bid the flat is ours.

How do you know whether to believe them? I guess the default answer to that is that if they're mouth is moving, they're lying.

Although some might harshly argue that Finchley is quite a long way out of town.

Iceland do some very nice lemoned-up salmon fillets at a most reasonable price.

and sold for 15k above, before the buyer pulled out.

Why would they not go to the other bidders and offer it for, say, 10k above asking price?

We hung on for one flat for 5 months waiting for the chain to clear ahead of us. Eventually someone gazumped the chain by taking a late, higher bid on the day before exchange. In that 5 months prices rose beyond our ability to still afford a two-bed. So we bought a one bed in Aug 2007 and then everything crashed. :-(

I wanna see you wiggle wiggle, for sure.
It makes me wanna dribble dribble, you know
Riding in my Fiat, you really have to see it
I'm 6 feet 2 in a compact, no slack, but luckily the seats go back

Having had a top bidder drop out seems an odd reason to think you will want to increase your own bid.

Just IMHO.

and demographically speaking, whilst north and central Finchley are an extension of Hell. West Finch is quite nice in a bland, characterless suburban residential kind of way,

Two drop outs? Dubious....

That was when I went to school over 20 years ago. Drove through there recently, it is slightly better now, but that depends on where you are buying.
