I used to have accounts in Germany and Ireland ( long story ) until the chancellor took the fun out of embezzling :-(

stick some monies there each month so the temptation not to use them would be good,

Then it would be handy when I am over in North America I could use the card.

I spoken to them it seems I can open it easily and visit an office in London. Which coincidentally is next to my office.

However I can only deposit during this phase. And only once I physically go to Canada and show my documentation I can not withdraw etc.

but flights seem a bit pricey than usual.

I do it as I have tried not to sell house, flat, and need money in accounts elsewhere for when the immersion heater packs up, toilet backs up, locks changed, whatever it may be. Also handy for sending money to family in that area, if you have any. I'm talking kids birthdays, weddings, etc. But, again, due to anti-money laundering laws, you have to be careful and you have to declare everything.

If you weren't after remotely depositing, the trust safety deposit box would be your best friend here.

Why not fly to NYC, and drive up? only 5 hrs drive and very little border control to hold you up.

Left exactly on time. The only slight delay was when the train hit a deer!
