View Full Version : At the risk of getting Johnny Provincial on their high horses about London prices

I was amazed to be charged only £3 a pint in central London at around 1am this morning, in a live music bar in Denmark Street. (I was also amazed that Burger King was still open afterwards on TCR, which made waiting for the bus more agreeable.)
Also, the bus? :-( If it was after the tube had stopped a taxi doesn't cost that much, really. You didn't have that far to go, did you?
Hell, you could even walk. It'd be less humiliating than getting a bus.

Simple cue cards with "HOW MUCH?!?!" and "You can get [insert brand name] for [insert ridiculous price] in [insert neighbourhood]"

about 45 f*cking minutes. I could jog home in that time.
May as well just get a taxi and get home to bed.

There's a bit of a frisson of danger, usually some sort of sexual congress taking place, three or four types of assorted mentals and a liberal feathering of drug usage.

Often I should add because I am completely f**king ratted and just incredibly grateful for the beer, the price an irrelevance.
I paid more than that for a pint of Guinness in a non city centre pub last saturday, said pub was halfway up a f**king mountain in fact.

being freezing cold the bus was a fine option. Snobby spastics who sneer at warm, empty buses that drop you outside your front door deserve to get pretend cancer.
The bar was a wonderful, seedy muso's dive. Far nicer that the the s****y £4.50 a pint Shaftsbury Ave Bar the evening started in.

me 'WHY ARE YOU LOOKING AT ME???!' 'IF YOU DON'T STOP f**kING LOOKING AT ME I WILL KILL YOU!', I tried to difuse matters by politely telling him that I had no interest in looking at him but this seemed to aggravate the situation.
The bus was then coming to a stop and he absolutely smacked this middle-aged man out of the open doors and onto the pavement before alighting and running off :-
used it twice and vowed never again

The Mrs and I were in a city centre hostelry one summers evening and the pint and her silly drink cost me over ¤11. Stunned I was.
Next round was pint only as it wasn't a special occasion like her birthday.
Round after that was in a different pub.

That's the specific one I referred to actually, used to get it regularly when I went out with a lovely jewish girl from sydenham
1650 I didn't find too bad.
Also those Val prices were about 5 years ago. My mate is out there now, I'll ask him if he found anywhere reasonably priced

1850 - Very expensive, full of rude Russians, Abramovich once tried to buy the whole town but was told no by the locals
1650 - Better priced and where most Brits go
1550 - Cheaper, good for families
1350 - Meh
