Podolski struggles and can look ineffective in tight games, but has good enough technique and intelligence (if not mobility)to still serve a function. And he scores goals. Useful attribute, that.

Tolerating such foibles is a giant problem, I think. Goalscoring is a heavy responsibility and it's no good if your senior players are allowed to shirk it. Sets the wrong tone entirely.
