View Full Version : Hardest AWIMBer?

All this talk of physical threats has lead me to ponder, which AWIMBer would I least like to fight?

Probably SW, I think. Living up to his namesake.

I reckon I could take Rich before he got his Valet, Footman and Butler involved though.

One Wilf Copping
02-21-2013, 01:25 PM
Step forward Wilf Copping.

Dubbed as football's original hard man, it was a title he personally refuted, pointing out that in 340 league games he was never cautioned or sent-off. He admitted to tackling hard though – supposedly inventing the now illegal two-footed tackle – and coined the phrase "The first man in a tackle never gets hurt."

"On 14 November 1934 Wilf played in the Battle of Highbury – the England/Italy match which contained seven Arsenal players. The Italians were world champions, and England (who didn’t enter the world cup) thought that they, England, ought to be. Various players, including Stanley Matthews said that this was the roughest game they had ever played in – and generally blame is laid at the door of the Italians.

But England had its own weapon that day: Wilf Copping. It is suggested that the concept of the fearsome shoulder charge did not exist at that time in Italy, but did in England, and Wilf was the ultimate exponent. The Italian captain was tackled by Wilf and had to retire with a splintered bone in his foot."

as a weapon if called upon to defend myself (or the cat).

I decided on a La Crouset casserole dish, with handles for grip.

"Hold on while I pop downstairs to the kitchen".

You need to be prepared mate, I suggest a gun. Or a light sabre. I would use the latter. Of course it's only a replica but it would freak the **** out of the intruder as for a split second he wondered if I was a real jedi knight.

Thon thing I was alluding to earlier
Guy really wanted a dig at me and I was making him look a dick so he pours a pint over Mrs C's head.
I was made aware some time later that after I'd knocked him out I dragged him to the side of the footpath and started smashing his teeth against the kerb :-(
I just remember punching the **** :-(
