Geeky_Disco asks: "Is an eight-years-trophyless Wenger finished?"

Barney replies:

No. I don't think there is a crisis or a "meltdown" as such, just a wider scale realignment in football and Arsenal will do well to compete as they are. It is very easy to pick out flaws – all teams and managers have them – when basically your best players always leave.

Wenger could do with bringing in some help, either above or below. He looks – by choice - very isolated. It's a one-man club now, whereas Bayern for example have layers of management and experience everywhere, Arsenal are essentially one man's vision.

And that Wenger's perceived flaws are as much to do with us losing our best players every season.

Not the easiest of people to affect change.

Change is what's being heavily touted by most on lookers

Merely that he could do with help, hardly a massively negative observation.

Just an observation

and their relative positive/negative slant vis-a-vis our underfire manager.

And it still says that his perceived flaws are as much down to losing our key players every season, as they are personal failings.

And as everyone knows, with football managers as with women, the most important part of what you say always comes after the "but".

Either way, It implies he needs help.
I made a point in another post that people are fairly brutal in how far they're prepared to accomodate someones flaws after a period of 16 years in charge.
The knives are out at this stage and I can't see the protest movement being appeased by the prospect of keeping the unpopular protagonist in charge while wheeling in the help.

On a large scale? Perhaps for the board, but not for Wenger, I hope.

As Ronay* says later:

I don't think he will or should go. The only pressure is coming from a few newspapers and a small section of supporters, many of whom are... well.
