As Manchester United won their first 10 games of the 1985/86 season, the expectation was that Ron Atkinson's Red Devils would eclipse Tottenham's 1961 record winning start to a Football League season. Instead, it was Reading in the Third Division who achieved the feat, taking 39 points from their first 13 games. The run came to an end with a 2-2 draw against Wolves at Reading's old ground, Elm Park, but the Royals coasted to promotion.
