Did he know what he was saying? He had nearly an hour post match before speaking to the press to figure out what he was going to say. The first sentence is fine but the second one. Hmmm.
Defending his players is commendable but he's left himself open for an almighty press backlash here. Could become unbearable. Maybe he's going to go for broke in the CL but if he was then why sign Monreal who's inelegiable? Maybe he realises its a sinking ship and the best he can do is guide her to the nearest port ie 4th place and hand the vessel over.
