Seems the way the game and club are today
1) the squad is thin - so most of the top players know they won't be benched for underperformance; as evidenced last night, 2nd string are clearly not world beaters across the board
2) when big name players flop, they sit on the bench and eat up salary with no cares in the world, rather than being sold at a loss to clear the squad
So how does Wenger put a fear of failure into the squad when they can't be benched and they won't be dumped?
