It would be nice to think we'll have a new captain by the time they come out and that half the team know they don't have any credit left with Wenger. Clinch fourth place spot or they can leave...

More likely Wenger is praising their spee-rit and telling them to keep their belief in the face of unfair media criticism and the fans' hostility which is obviously to blame for not winning these games...

Really and why is that?

Wilshere is the player the team looks to. Vermaelen needs o work on his form and fitness and the additional burden isn't helping him.

We had exactly the same problem with David O'Leary in the past. When he gave up the captaincy (under duress) he spent a month sulking and then got back to top form.

It's not about age, it's about character and talent.

We saw that with TA6 too.

Jack thrives on pressure and has always had the responsibility of being the best player in every team he's played in coming up through the ranks.

He enjoys that kind of expectation and has the talent to back it up.

Vermaelen has been beset by various injuries and his form and decision-making have suffered MASSIVELY. If you think Vermaelen makes a better captain for The Arsenal than Jack would, then good luck to you.

I also think the burden can weigh heavy, look at what happened to Cesc. When things were bad we had a severe over reliance on him, and the same would happen with Jack. This team has the capabilities to spread burden all over, especially our front 5. Giving it to him now would undermine that, imo.

Then give it to Mikel or Per. At the moment Thomas is part of the problem - along with four or five other players in the squad.

Our defence is already questionable at best, I can't imagine this would do much to help.

I do agree with you regarding the captaincy, I just don't think now is the time to change it.
