money is not a valid one. Wenger himself said at the time that we didn't need the money and did not want it.
Personally I think that there was a difference of opinion on that with Ivan and Stan's views on the matter.
One thing should be pointed out though the RVP sale did not finance the summer buys .
There was already a huge cash surplus available. Also I seem to recall that it was not all cash up front anyway for RVP.

But the Board would have been negligent if they hadn't considered the impact of losing £24m a year later -- even with the knock on impact on the quality of the squad.

The likes of City and Chelsea perhaps excluded.

It's not like buying a second hand car. Payments are staged, could be part of why they take so long to conclude on occasions.

Many times over the years we have read about monies outstanding on deals where players like Overmars etc went abroad.

I know most spuds fans are obsessed with our club, but you even know of disagreements between senior executives of the clubs. Now that is dedication. Well done White&Bluefag.

What little we could do about it.

we didn't need the money so why help to strengthen United ?
Of course Stan with his pro- Glazer - United , anti-City well known views , might have seen things differently - after all he's happy to finish 4th and to win f**k all every season.
His stooges have even publicly said so.

And be £24m out of pocket. Who would probably have just joined Utd a year later for nothing.

The players brought in have scored 'his goals'

In your scenario we'd have a half or less motivated player, we'd be £25m worse off and we'd still be as many points behind United because quite simply they are a much better football team than us.

They are better at other stuff.

in fact I think that it would have sent out a message that we are not a selling club - and who knows what might have happened with RVP . Anyway, we should have just paid him more money -that's what it was all about, because he wouldn't have gone anywhere else for less. And neither will anyone else.

Expensive message that, maybe we should just Skype instead

accused of rape. Some claim that he was lucky to get off .
I suppose being stuck in the reserves at Arsenal wouldn't be such a traumatic thing for him after surviving that prison ordeal and rape charge.
