View Full Version : Zonal marking v Man-to-Man marking, am I wrong in thinking ManU and Spurs play the latter?

If so, they have both conceded more goals than us, ManU 4 and Spurs 1

Why isn't there any critism to their defending method i.e. man-to-man like there is to ours every time we concede a goal?

To highlight the flaws in zonal. By strangely always asking whose man it was. When really the question should be whose zone was that to mark.

1) Your point doesn't actually make much sense - the zonal/man marking thing only relates to set pieces goals conceded, your stats refer to overall goals conceded

2) Are you having a laugh - United's defending this season has been picked apart left right and centre, there are huge question marks about it and these have been expressed down the point where there are loads of rumours flying around about potential replacements for De Gea

:hehe:

Would be interesting to see how many goals have been conceded by each club from dead ball situations

Zonal defending has worked just fine for the top Italian teams over the last 25 years (and their national side) under trainers like Sacchi, Lippi, Capello etc .

Ancelotti is interesting in combining elements of zonal and man-to-man marking.
