but what surprises me is the way he forced his move and now quotes like this. Why not just comment on the positives of his new club, without explicitly drawing comparisons to Arsenal. People can read between the lines, and it'd make him seem like less of an arsehole

Man Utd a bigger, better and more desirable club to play for than us?

far more than they would trust the opinion of a journalist, ex-player or fan, has openly criticised the quality of Wenger's current squad.

That's bad for the morale of his ex team mates, becomes the theme for the next year and a day in every newspaper and radio phone in show

I would imagine it provides him with a huge amount of personal satisfaction.

I'm saying that him directly drawing everyone's attention to it is damaging to his old club

"If you look at the last couple of months it explains it all. I'm seeing things again that I didn't see for a long time. All these guys here know how to win and become champions."

could reflect negatively on Arsenal. Certainly, even if you think he does, then the comments in that piece are surely within the appropriate boundaries. Is any current Arsenal player really under the illusion that they are surrounded by "champions"?

Certainly in the case of Van Persie.

Fits better with the easily digestible narrative, though, of course. And that's the important thing.

Given that players such as Fabregas and Song were sold with complete backing by the man.

Perhaps van Persie given this *******s we often read about how Wenger stood by him during injury etc, but I doubt it.

I think he could have phrased his comments better, but I doubt he'll be too worried when he's lifting trophies at the end of the season

they used to support. There comes a time, though, where it is probably necessary to admit that they no longer support the interests of that club, just the interests of some of the playing staff who pass through it.

chance that Robin would have tucked away with the proverbial aplomb is further proof of the massive satisfaction that Arsene feels about seeing van Persie now scoring every game for Man Utd.

in which Wenger both regrets losing him and also feels a strong sense of pride that he made him into the player he is today.

If it helps, I can't say I'm entirely comfortable with the idea.

I understand the point that he may feel some pride, but how much pride would you feel if a woman you hypothetically loved was nicked by a flash movie star?

What is it you feel uncomfortable about?

It would be blind loyalty to rule this out entirely
