the result of this 'heavyweight' contest could well decide if Arsene signs a new player before the window shuts.
The way I see it if we win the game in hand - and then beat Brighton in the cup tie - Wenger will then claim that everything is honky-dory and there is no reason to buy a new player,with all of the old tried (or tired)trusty excuses wheeled out like a bin full of garbage to justify this.
If we don't win the game in hand then the points differentials could be too much to overcome anyway; even with a new signing.

I do think though that unless the team is shored up defensively and blessed with a striker then the top four is out of our reach. However, I don't think anyone would have done better than Wenger with the resources we have had over the last five years!

We have a majority shareholder who employs stooges to act on his behalf.
Wenger by his own admission has a lot of power over certain aspects of the way things are run,not least the signing of players and team tactics of course.
He might not have much say in who is sold though.
