View Full Version : Snowymotorwaywimb - I'm due to meet my girlfriend tomorrow evening back home. Problem is that she

lives in the Brecon Beacons (working as a vet - she doesn't want to live in the arse end of nowhere) and a rare red warning has been issued with the potential for up to 30cm of snow there in 3-6 hours.

My question is what A roads are typically like in that sort of weather? And the M4, too? My opinion (based on only the knowledge that they need to keep A roads leading to hospitals clear) is that if she can make it to the M4 she should be OK as that will be extensively salted and gritted.

Anyone with more experience than I?

Power out of the skid imo. Right foot hard down.

Normally about 3 hours on the M1, it took me about 9 hours.

Yeah, a 4x4 will help her lots, but not everyone else who gets stuck and blocks the road.

My wife has driven Range Rovers all her life but she is still the worst driver in Europe, especially in bad weather.

But I have to go M25, M3 and M27 - all big motorways so I really doubt they'd let them get like Marve's picture above.

Pretty sure the chick was Russia but I made her pretend she was Swedish (it still counts  )

I believe that photo is taken pretty close to London Colney, as it happens.

in a Beemer, I've already told work that if it should happen to snow here then they'll just have to deal with me working from home as I'm not even going to bother trying

Also, make sure you only take flimsy clothing and wear only flip-flops.

You also dont need much petrol at that temperature, it doesnt use any when it's nearly frozen.

If you do need to take drink with you then really, really cheap vodka is probably best

the lights.

When they asked me what I was doing, I said I was explaining to my passenger what traction control was and showing him the difference with it turned off :hehe:

trains run, roads are clear. No chance of skiving off for a snow day :-(

My mate's got the older one, goes like a train but he's never let me have a go. Probably would these days now it isn't worth a toss tho.

Unless you've got something extremely clever, which it doesn't sound like tbh.

Still, it's fairly savage. It has an M-Sport button but when you press it even gentle acceleration seems impossible. Gentle pressure on the loud pedal sees you lurching forward.

Though it is hilarious to see your passengers head smash into the headrest.
