View Full Version : Now all we need is a draw on Sunday, then two home wins and we're back on track

Might even find ourselves back in the top four after that lot, since spurs have man utd next then two away games (including the mighty west brom).

Funny how a win in an essentially pointless competition can make things seem so much better.

we're still a Champions League club?

PSRB

that pretty much leaves everyone else to fight for 1 spot and the fact that we consistently achieve that (or better) is a bit good

we are the best of the rest. It is not a trophy but it keeps us in £30 a year. Chances of us wining the league are low whilst City and Chelsea can buy every decent player on the planet. Also add PSG to that list now.

Pretty much the norm really, any higher would be an over achievement but any lower would be a disgrace imo

I do think Billy is wrong in underestimating the lure of CL football to a player.

Man City regularly struggled at the beginning of their money to sign players as they didn't offer CL football. They had to use a two stage approach and sign B class players to establish themselves before replacing them with A class players once they had proved they were serious and were going to be in the CL year in, year out.

I know they splashed out last summer but largely that was negated by the sale of Modric.

You know how we love to bang one out on the basis of nett spend.

Years in which liverpool, who certainly are notmega rich, were also better than us for a while.

And it kind of ignores the fact that we are getting worse.

Monty91
01-17-2013, 12:34 PM
they would be in the CL within a season, and almost certainly winning trophies before long too.

Us being able to pay an extra £20k a week or whatever, would not be accompanied by that same guarantee.

Besides, as has been pointed out before, the 2 needn't be mutually exclusive. If you're good enough for top 4, stands to reason your squad should be good enough for a decent cup run.

They spent almost £100 million between about 2003 and 2008, but have reined it in since then, thanks partly due to big sales such as Modric.

Odd how Levy is often looked upon as a clown but appears to do quite a decent job. Are you aware of the general opinion held by Spurs fans on him?

On players who either don't play for us any more or who are not good enough to even make the bench? Different reasons for why we have both sets, but it's definitely over-inflated the wage bill
