Signing any player is a hit and miss business,although there is usually more chance of them being a hit if they are proven in the home league.

RVP to United was a marquee signing - and he was a proven player.

None of the three new signings that Wenger made last summer were marquee type signings , a'la Bergkamp that got people excited by them .

Few had ever heard of Cazorla or Giroud,and Poldolski was nothing special.

I'll grant that the selling was usually when we'd pretty much finished with them before though.

However, Wenger's brief, from the beginning, was to buy younger players so that we had a chance of selling the better ones for significanty more than we'd bought them for.

Get costs under control -> build a new stadium -> massively increase our income -> establish ourselves amongst the elite.
