View Full Version : Stewart Robson believes Theo Walcott’s new 88,000-a-week contract is double what he deserves

The Gunners winger, who is set to sign the bumper deal before the end of the month, has been in and out of form recently, scoring four goals in his last four Premier League appearances, but failing to convince in the FA Cup tie against Swansea on Sunday.
And former Highbury favourite Robson claims the money allocated on retaining the England star’s services could have been better spent elsewhere.

“If Olivier Giroud and Lukas Podolski were playing well and Santi Cazorla was getting bags of goals, Theo Walcott would have left Arsenal in the January transfer window,” he told the Sports Bar. “Theo Walcott has come along at just the right time and will get paid double what he really deserves.

“Theo Walcott is overrated. He’s got good pace and is looking like a good finisher but his general game understanding is not very good. Most of the other players at Arsenal have a better technical understanding of the game.

“I just wish the money had been spent on keeping Robin Van Persie, Cesc Fabregas Samir Nasri, Alex Song and Gael Clichy and all the players before that who were top quality players.
“Walcott is too hit and miss. He’ll have a good couple of games and then play like he did against Southampton where he couldn’t hold up the ball. He had to be swapped to the right wing because he was so ineffective up front.”

If he left, we'd have been slaughtered, even without knowing why. Pay slightly more than he's probably worth, also get a kicking. On balance, I think giving him the cash is the right thing to do.

I think he is in a fortunate position with supporter unrest @ the annual departures of key players in recent years. Another summer with a player leaving – this time for free – and some fans will flip their lids.

His people will be more than aware of this.

He will get what he wants, or close to it, but it will be due to the club having been backed into a corner as opposed to a recognition of his actual quality as a player.

So ship out some crap and up TJ's wages and you're still in the same place.

I am slightly afeard we need 3 more players. 4 ideally. And I'm not sure we'll get any at all.

AD is back.

Defensively mind you we're one injury away from Squillaci.

we'll actually come out of it with a weaker squad numbers wise.

Poor all round.

Especially as he has 6 months to being a free agent. Maybe he really does want to stay?

But unless he goes through to the end of the season unscathed, he's got to be f**ked out the window.

I think we need another defensive midfielder to help Arteta, another keeper and a wide/creative midfielder (which might not be necessary if Diaby comes good). And a CB of course.

really. At 7-8m would be a bargain and exactly what we need. Arsene has changed c**ts before so don't see why he couldn't with him.

make sense in that case as he's one of the few technically gifted British players in that Arteta role.

is proof that the players don't believe in Wenger any more and it's time for a new manager. He just pulled the appropriate one out of the drawer. Wd SR.
