appointed in the summer after a record of barely lasting a season with his previous three clubs?

What more could you want, AVP after Porto?

A difficult question. I'm not convinced Laudrup is the best candidate for us out there, but we could do a lot worse when Wenger one day leaves.

Laudrup has made poor choices with most of the club's he's joined, but maybe he wanted a challenge and to test himself or maybe he just didn't have any better offers.

He did well with Brondby (along with john Jensen), although they should always finish first or second anyway. Getafe were sensational under him and played tremendous attacking football at times. After that most of the club's he's managed have been struggling before his arrival, whether through loss of form, internal divisions or financial problems as at Mallorca.

Swansea offered stability and an ambitious, hard-working playing staff on the plus side and a small fan base and limited financial potential on the downside. Laudrup took a gamble and it seems to have paid off – for him and Swansea.

I wouldn't say Laudrup's record was much worse than Wenger's when he arrived...

Assuming Guardiola doesn't fancy the move to SW6

it is more the reaction to him that is typical of the knee-jerk fan's response these days. Similar to Michu - looks a cracking player but if we had signed a 25 year old player for ¤3m who had played only one season in top flight Spanish football, the knives would be out

that isn't based around the ego of its owner. While no fan of Manchester City's owners, they seem less controlling and more willing to leave the running of the club to football men, two of home are close to Guardiola.

Of course if Mancini wins the European Cup there is no way they can sack him and bring in a new man. :homer: & :doublehomer:

Seems to me that these clubs like Madrid, Barca, PSG, City and Chelsea have a rotating culture. As long as any manager accepts the consequences beforehand, it can be a way to earn a huge amount of money in the short term.
The key is to negotiate yourself the best possible exit package before taking the post.

If he takes it and does well his reputation is enhanced.

If he performs poorly he'll get a big pay off and probably be able to argue that he didn't have enough time to make a difference and how difficult it is to manage under an oilgarch who makes decisions over your head.

Mourinho - Inter and Real
Grant - West Ham
Scolari - Brazil
Ancelotti - PSG
AVB - Spurs
Di Matteo - reputation is enhanced by being sacked it seems

OK one of them went to a really **** club - and Grant went to West Ham

I can't see Laudrup going to Chelsea after his experiences with Spartak Moscow. It wasn't a great experience for him...

IF we ever need to replace Wenger, then Laudrup does tick a lot of the boxes:

- he understands the dynamic of big clubs having played for Juve, Real and Barca;
– understands European competition;
– he likes to work with young players;
– he can work under financial constraints;
– he favours a fluid 4-2-3-1 formation;
– he's calm under pressure (some say too calm);
– he can educate players in how to play as a team and attack AND defend when needed;
– he has a global profile which can't hurt on the marketing and PR side for any club he manages;
– finally, like Bergkamp at Ajax, he's probably still easily he most talented player in training so none of his players' egos can ever get too inflated.

He can take over in 2014-15

Mind you on that last point, that was one of Hoddle's great weaknesses. Couldn't deal with players less talented than him - well that and the fact that he is a nutter
