However dodgy our defending had been in recent seasons at least we had some creativity and a desire to win the ball back, and an ability to at least do something with it.

Now (on our off days) without the ball we drop back into two banks of four and have no attacking shape when we do get the ball.

And it can't really be the case that all these other guys are crap...or is it really that simple....

In which case....we've got major problems with our scouting network.

I'm more concerned that so many players in the squad are just not up to scratch. Even the players we transferred in that looked good for their teams but since coming to us have not lived up to the promise...

Chamakh, Gervinho and Arshavin.

Then the others, Fabianski, Denilson, Vella, Frimpong, Jay Emmanuel Thomas, Tom Cruise, Ramsey etc...whom all had big hopes for them.

Do we just happen to have a particularly bit of poor luck with these players...or do we not have the adequate coaching system in place to allow these players to step up to the next level?

Or as mentioned earlier....project youth just does not work?

And again - this brings us back to the coaching issue - is it a weakness in our set up that these players don't fulfill their potential - or - are the players not good enough?
