They were playing a Div 4 side called Pro Patria.

NOT Nicosia. Now banned.

is even sadder and more pathetic is the fact that a fully grown man can get so upset by some name calling that he refuses to do his job, removes his shirt, kicks the ball away and walks off the pitch.

I'm not for racisim at all, but if a player's health/general well-being isn't threatened then they should be professional and get on with it rather than acting like a child. Frank Lampard gets called fat for 90 minutes in every game he plays yet he is still consistently one of the top performers in the Premier League. He doesn't moan about it he just gets on with it.

Racisim has been blown out of all proportion imho - if someone calls you a name what the f**k does it matter?

I do agree that racisim needs to be clamped down on because if it was allowed then it would most likely escalate to physical violence which can't be tolerated. But I think it's utterly pathetic for a professional sportsman to walk off because someone called them a mean name.

Short of being able to go into the crowd and beat the **** out of them, he did the one thing that ensured that people would have their attention drawn to it. The culprits were later arrested I understand. That would never have happened if he and his team mates had just ignored it and carried on playing.

Being accused of being a rapist is better than someone making a correct observation about the colour of your skin imho.

Double standards.

being should have to put up with it

Verbal abuse is at times worse than physical abuse but of course you wouldn't know anything about that

It's when people are stopped from doing things/physically or emotionally hurt that racisim is actually a problem.

thing to say about someone that is not guilty than passing comment on the colour of someone's skin.

One man calls a black guy a 'black c**t' and he has to appear in court.

It's absolutely ridiculous and people need to grow a pair.

I would rather someone called me fat/skinny/white/black than made unproven accusations against me.

30 years ago it was perfectly acceptable to call someone a 'coloured', 'coon', 'spade' etc and it didn't really cause problems. Problems come when it escalates to be more than name calling which is why action is required at the name calling stage.

You seem to defend such actions using various examples but none really justify your views

It doesn't hurt them, doesn't stop them earning many thousands of Pounds per week, doesn't stop them achieving their hopes and dreams. It's just a nasty word. But if you allowed that, people would get carried away and start throwing things at/attacking at blacks/whites/browns (depending on where they were from) which could obviously not be tolerated.

Accusing someone of a crime they did not commit is far, far worse and could damage a career and stop people doing what they want. This is why I believe that is far worse than being called a mean name.

Calling someone black is no different to calling someone fat. It's an observation as well as an insult.

That is my justification.

a player fat or ginger, or a puff if they've got long hair? It's all the same - name calling, sticks and stones, not racism.

There is no difference so don't play that f**king race card on me.
