He has always bought players who are unproven in our league, which comes with a big risk. That way he gets the credit for taking a punt on them when none of his peers thought to. I think he does this for cost reasons, but also because he likes to take all the credit for taking a gamble on them.

Compare this to Ferguson (who has also imported talent, but nowhere near the same scale), who buys almost risk free players like Rio, Rooney, Carrick, Valencia, Young, RvP, Van der Saar, plus loads of others. There's much less chance of these types of players needing 3 seasons to adjust to tour league
