She has never been in an accident or any points on her licence.

Drives a Mini One and had her wing mirrors stolen a few months ago. She contributed £200 towards the replacement only to find out that she now has lost her no claim bonus and the renewal cost is £2,495

How can this be justified? Does anyone know of any insurance companies that we should consider?

She has been using Sheilas Wheels insurance for the last 4 years, the above was her first ever claim

Here are the nagatives:

1) Lives in Birmingham although in a good area (Moseley)
2) Unemployed (Does 3 different unpaid jobs (Amnesty International, Oxfam and a Birmingham Newspaper) to gain experience - unemployed people apparently are a higher risk for car insurance - She has now been successful with a job application with the government depending on clearance enquiries e.g. CRB atc. - The problem being she may not start the job before the insurance starting date

Any insurance experts here please, my Christmas is fast being destroyed

Seems daft if they are statistically less likely to have an accident

On the radio someone was saying that their son drives around with a black box fitted which monitors his driving patterns, ensures he doesn't drive at night and doesn't take passengers (to decrease his premium) yet he still had to pay thousands a year for a car that only cost him a coupleof grand

I was hit by a drunk driver who accepted full responsibility yet my insurance still went up the following year because i was then considered to be higher risk!

Completely unfair but the companies themselves don't need to be fair

would then still have the right to remove your no claim bonus anyway, so made a claim. It seems they are on a win-win situation.

They gave us the option of contributing to the cost so that the renewal damage would not be extreme but now they shoot us with both barrels

Shirley the police report is entirely separate and of which the insurance company would know nothing http://www.awimb.com/images/smiley_icons/shrug.gif

gender bias in respect to car insurance.

Beforehand women got cheaper car insurance. Now the EU prevents gender bias in the pricing and as a result insurance for women has gone up.

I take it you've tried using the various comparison websites etc..

NB: The insurance companies now harvest the quote information. So if you start to change details to lower the quote from what you originally quoted - then they get suspicious.

discount but we were told that it wouldn't make any difference to the no claim bonus

Cos from 1st December policies for men and women have to be the same price, EU ruling. http://www.awimb.com/images/smiley_icons/rolleyes.gif So she might find herself now paying the same price of 20 something boy races.

Especially if she wasn't at fault for the damage. They couldn't take her no claims if she wasn't at fault. Why didn't she have protected NC's?
