@piersmorgan that's because he's had to sell your best players to balance the books. Net spend embarrassingly low, as you know

Blows out of the water the idea that he's not been spending money because he's stubborn etc. Hasn't spent it because he hasn't had it

"Hopefully now we can be a bit more convincing," Wenger said. First hints of what many have suspected - his hands have been tied financially

I wouldnt expect much, if anything, in january. It would actually be better to wait. He needs to make some decisions about some of his players.

a solitary photograph of him in a suit.

Never mind that - we shouldn't let a lack of YouTube evidence of his world-beating goal scoring exploits prejudice us against his documented achievements in the Zambian league in 1972 and anyone that doubts this is obviously a racist. http://www.awimb.com/images/smiley_icons/nod.gif

"you can't sell your two best players and still be considered a big club" for example. Then the board sold Cesc and Nasri.

We only lost Ashlet Cole because the Board wouldn't pay an extra 5k per week to honor the commitment Wenger and Dein made to Cole - they capped the offer below that and hauled Wenger onto the carpet.

You, on the other hand, state your opinion and then call the other person obscene names.

Now, which one of us is more likely to be listened to, and which reviled? http://www.awimb.com/images/smiley_icons/sherlock.gif

The finite overall wage bill means we pay players relatively smaller wages and also that we can't afford to increase the number of players taking a slice of that cake. If we did the size of the slices would be smaller still. If 'our' top players want to be paid the same as their PL peers then they'll go.

You can't have it both ways but I agree that offloading some of the expensive fringe (at best) players would help.

Maybe having bought a simple burger AND chips we can't buy a Big Mac

Arsene 3. Chapman won 1 FA Cup, Arsene 4. Chapman no doubles, Arsene 2. Chapman no unbeaten seasons, Arsene 1. Chapman no new stadium transition managed, Arsene 1.

So tell me, what is your criteria?

He never had the resources Wenger had during his success. Wenger isn't even our second "best manager".
I just cant understand the adulation Wenger gets. the love that Nic shows is commendable if not just a little weird and strange.

Then spent peanuts on players nobody had heard of (Anelka, Petit, Vieira...) to win the league in his first full season, against a Man Utd team who had the luxury of being able to populate their team with the pick of the best players available.

Then he sold Anelka for 50 times more than he paid for him, which allowed us to build a state of the art training ground. I can't even be bothered to go on, it's pointless

Not even our second best manager?? Pah

24.5m profit from one player, back when that was a big deal

Then the operating model was conceived, meaning that we could then fund a whole stadium in the same way

Why don't you refer to the club's financial accounts which you are using for insight into Wenger's salary, and our wage bill?

Quote:

Bob Wilson, the Gunners' legendary 1971 Double-winning keeper, explained to The Sun: "I was sitting in an office at the old training ground we used to lease when in walked Arsene.

"I remember him saying 'I do not understand. This is Arsenal? It cannot be Arsenal'.

"First in his sights was a new training ground, purpose-built and paid for in an ingenious way. He bought Anelka from Paris St Germain for 300,000 and sold him to Real Madrid for 23million.

"From that, 12m created the country's best football training facility.

"And with the spare 11m he went out and bought another young French player called Thierry Henry. Some business, some brain."

yes. He had a great team behind him and together they built the finest stadium and training grounds. And edleman, fizzman and Friar put in a finanacial repayment package with the banks on the loans that was brilliant.

After years of so called "protecting" the board, who always claimed there was money, he now comes out with this line when there is money available. So now he implies the board were lying? Doesn't make sense other than he is protecting his own **** performances over the past few seasons now the pressure is on. Integrity my arse.

The facts are that Cole's agent told Cole that Arsenal had offered 60k. No other communication took place between Cole and Arsenal, that we are aware of.

Relevant point here:
The contract saga stretches back to the beginning of the season just gone. Cole, with three years of his contract to run, was approached by Dein with the intention of securing a new deal as soon as possible. After an impressive campaign from the England left-back and given that his salary was just 28,000 a week - not even a third of what Sol Campbell or Patrick Vieira earned - Dein indicated Arsenal were willing to offer more. Dein offered 35,000 a week but insisted there could be no negotiations. However, negotiations did eventually begin and Barnett and Dein shook hands on a deal which offered Cole 60,000 a week. Dein said this was subject to board approval but that he and Wenger would urge the board to accept. The impression given was that this was a formality. But the Arsenal board refused to back their vice-chairman. As the minutes of the board meeting show, they would not agree to pay more than 55,000 a week. An incensed Wenger asked: "So you're prepared to lose Ashley Cole for 5,000 a week?" Peter Hill-Wood, the Arsenal chairman, replied: "That is the final offer."
