Was thinking of making the long trip down but at £62 I'm giving it a miss. I can feed the whippets for 4 years for that amount of money. Jeez.

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't there something slightly hypocritical or incongruous about charging £62 for a ticket and simultaneously claiming that football's finances are unfair?

Oh well...

Just so happens City is a big game and category A prices.

Of course you should maximise revenue even if it means keeping out the traditional working-class section of your support.

My point was that to do the above whilst simultaneously complaining about other clubs 'ruining the game' seems a tad hypocritical to me.

I mean, as you clearly have no intention of spending the money you're accumulating, why not reduce ticket prices and get some noisier, younger and more enthusiastic supporters back in to the ground?

With the economic situation as it is across the country. In Spain for example, attendances have been hit by their unemployment problems. Admittedly their country is in a worse state, but I am still surprised football is yet to feel a similar impact over here. Especially as there's so many cheaper options to watch a game than actually attending

£62 for City but £22.50 for other games? I'm not taking the piss here but which matches are £22.50? Brattford City?

due to the downturn. But football seems to be oblivious to this, carrying on as normal

and everyone's up-in-arms about too much sponsorship and too many corporate punters at the ground.

highest cost at a football ground = London (Arsenal)

Limited amount of people, tickets largely bought in advance, waiting list etc etc

and in this example City fans will have to pay well over £100 all in to come down for the game

In relative terms I'd guess some of the prices at the Northern grounds might be a bit of a stretch too.
Regardless there's been problems in the economy for years now, and it seems practically every other aspect of life has been affected, except for football

And, judging by all the empty seats at grounds not in London and/or the Premier League, I dont think the demand is so strong.

The fact we're even entertaining a pricing structure that accounts for demand is proof enough.

I noticed in the Manc derby you get your fair share of Japanese tourists now too!

maybe.

It must be true that demand is still ahead of supply in that London and in other more successful parts of the country and despite very high prices, supporters still turn up to watch their team.

But, this doesn't mean that football isn't pricing-out its natural and more loyal supporters and won't reap the dividend of that some time in the near future.

Sunderland perhaps (though possibly as much to do with bad form as high unemployment in the region, as Newcastle still get big crowds) Who else?

Whilst I accept that there is a case of the law of diminishing returns applying to them, the fact that manu advertises tickets in the local press and regularly emails former season ticket holders with offers of tickets shows that demand for their tickets has fallen.

As far as foreign tourists goes, yes. They must be bolstering demand. We see lots of them at th'Etihad these days.

As for price, season tickets are around £550. Match day tickets c£35. If you're taking a child to a game, by the time you've parked/got the met, had a pint and a 3 foot long hot dog, you've spent £80/£100. I'd say a lot of people up here are deterred from spending that amount of money (even to watch the champions).

As you say, these days there are a lot of other leisure pursuits that we are spending our money on so football supporting must offer good value or eventually suffer from declining attendances.

who generally average over 90 percent of the capacity attendances. Surprisingly Fulham seem to have the most empty seats on percentage, along with Wigan

Respectable enough for what is also to watch a struggling team on the pitch.
The West Brom figures are interesting. Best start to a season for decades, so off field factors must come into play there. Villa from the same region wasn't sure of as they've been in decline for years, but possibly the Midlands climate re jobs and unemployment is having an impact on these two clubs. But we're not talking half empty stadiums in these cases either, still getting big enough crowds even if 20 or 25 percent below capacity
