I know this is about as effective a strategy as asking a horse for the time but could anybody help?

One border-less world, ruled from Washington/Beijing/Whoever has the biggest military *****, with the nation state crushed into dust.

Anyway, City States are the way forward economically, apparently. So good luck with that, Leedsboy. http://www.awimb.com/images/smiley_icons/thumbup.gif

It's surprising (or perhaps not) how crudely formed the characters of Vimes and Vetinari are in their early stages. I suppose having 20-odd books to grow, hone and polish them does help the old development-arc.

I think Vimes peaks in Nigh****ch - which I also reread recently.

Did you read Dodger? On to that at the moment. Very odd reading a non-Discworld Pratchett

I have read some of his early Sci-Fi stuff before he stumbled upon the Discworld. Mostly meh (as are the first couple of Discworld books, in fact).

The one he co-wrote with Neil Gaiman was good though. The first thing I read of TP was a very good short story in a computer magazine circa 1982. It was only when I dug it out again decades later that I realised who'd written it.

I got Dodger for my birthday hence reading it now - it is good so far. They are bringing out - or may have brought out - a collection of his short stories and other writings. I wouldn't expect them to be brilliant but probably worth reading. It is interesting to chart his development as a writer
