View Full Version : One thing this prank call has shown up is how slack Royal security is

Been incidents in the not too distant past of trespassers in the Buckingham Palace grounds. And I would have assumed there would have been a protocol for situations like a Royal in hospital and various aides would screen calls for the Queen and the hospital would also be aware of such formal procedures, but apparently not.

Heard the actual prank call for the first time today, Steve Penk or Rory Bremner they were not, atrociously bad! They can't even disguise the Aussie twang well at times.

Do feel a lot of sympathy for these DJs, clearly carrying a lot of guilt and devastated by this when there's probably other factors that pushed the nurse over the edge.

But he didn't get anywhere and the Queen wasn't there - getting into the grounds and getting caught is hardly a damning indictment of the security that your massive generalisation makes

More acceptable in UK that way.

that a very bad Queen impersonation could just get through? That there wasn't some sort of formal procedure in these instances, calls screened first by aides etc?

But yes I expect The Family will employ a full-time telephone receptionist now with knowledge of every switchboard of every building that one of the royal brood might temporarily find themselves in.

Do we know what was actually divulged by the nurse? Has the transcript been reported anywhere? It was aired so I'm assuming it's somewhere..

actually thought it was the Queen on the phone, and that they weren't just reeling off the standard response to media enquiries about Kate's health?

because of the security and privacy angle. I also assumed there would be some sort of procedure involved, and that the Queen would rarely make an unscreened call

Hideously bad impressions as I said, amazed they duped them
