As I wanted to get a camera and a course booked for my good lady for Christmas. She doesn't own a camera but is envious of those who do and know how to take pics. So I decided to help put this right.
I went for this camera.

It is not a DSLR so you may think this is strange. But after taking some advice, it turns out that many pro's have this range as a back up camera to always keep in their bag etc when they don't have their full DSLR with them or don't want to get it out and set it all up.
It is a great camera with everything manual so you can learn how to control all of that shít to know how to take proper pictures. Then if she really gets the bug, she can get an expensive DSLR later on but it won't render this useless (as maybe buying a cheap DSLR or bridge now would).
I've also booked her on a workshop and tour with these people.

If you are interested, I couldn't recommend Corinna here enough. I emailed her asking for help in choosing a camera. We ended up speaking on the phone several times and exchanging emails as I learnt more and more about what was needed and what suited. She did all of this brilliantly and without any need for commitment from me. The workshops and tours get great reviews on Trip Advisor and I reckon it will be awesome.
Anyway, Nicosia style post is over now.
