View Full Version : Walcott . Should he go or should he stay?

Personally I would ,even allowing for his inconsistency, prefer that he stays . He's our top scorer this season and we are not exactly over blessed with players who can score goals.
Of course he may not want to stay. Wenger maybe handicapped in all of this by the wages that Ivan the Profit (maker) deems to be what Stan is prepared to pay Theo after taking account of all of the Wenger deadwood that is already on our huge wage bill ,with Arshavin now also a non-starter having become persona non-gratia with moody Arsene.
Wenger should call Walcott's agent's bluff by offering near what he is demanding and if the offer is not taken up then he should put Walcott up for sale in January. He will have nothing to lose by doing so because Walcott can walk away on a free next summer anyway. Again though there are problems in putting Theo up for sale because other clubs also know that they can have him for nothing at the end of season, and Walcott's agent can get his client bigger wages and a signing on fee in that situation.
Ivan of course with his track record of selling players to make a profit won't be that fussed. Even if Walcott goes on a free Ivan will still save millions of big bucks on wages paid that can be used to pay another player with, and apparently there is an image rights issue involved . All in all it looks like Walcott may be more likely to go than to stay. Probably at the end of the season.

line by 31/12 then sell for an acceptable price in January rather than wait for him to walk (and how committed would he really be in that interim period?).

That's the spirit Arsene and we have Diaby coming back, that will be like signing a new player http://www.awimb.com/images/smiley_icons/smile.gif

Just curious, why else would you sell a player?

"He's not a football man" they say. He's spent most of his career in football.

"He's only interested in the business" they say. Presumably they would like someone who is more interested in meddling with the team rather than doing his job, which is to turn a f**king profit (which is something we categorically would not have done but for a couple of fortuitously timed property deals).

From where I'm sitting he looks to me like he's bloody good at his job

As I said, that would be the ideal solution, but why would Liverpool or whoever, buy him when they can wait a few months and get him on a free.

It's the ones on long contrats and big wages who prove to be not worth that who are the real problem. I would have thought that a clever dick like yourself would have known that. Next question?

Would you say it's accurate that we've never bought players at the top of the market? Apart from in the 30s, of course.

And, with the best will in the world, it's not Ivan's job to identify players so why are you blaming him for this?

I'm not particularly happy with how things are going at the moment but if you cant inject at least a bit of reason and pragmatism into the debate how can you expect to identify a solution?

and all of that, Wenger's 7.5m a year is what he's worth to Stan. And tickets wouldn't sell for the prices that they do for matches if the actual value of some of the games was realistically priced up.

, because we have bought top players in the past. Was I imagining when standing on the North Bank that Malcolm M'c Donald was making his debut? David Seaman, Ian Wright, Dennis Bergkamp anyone. There have been others ,I would put Reyes in that category at the time he was signed. And also Arshavin . Both failed to live up to expectations ,ut they were still considered top players when we signed them. You are one of those annoying types who gets themselves into an entrenched position on some matter and then tries to defend it by posting abuse and nonsense at others.

....jesus, really?

So at a time when everyone is spending £30m on players we buy reyes and arshavin for - at a conservative estimate - £12m each and that equates to the top of the market, does it?

I'm going to put it to you that you dont understand enough about football, or about business in general, to have an opinion on most of this stuff.

gamble that paid off, should have signed Jordan Rhodes from Huddersfield on that basis. Dennis was also having a mare at Inter and we picked him up on the cheap. Could also argue that Cazorla was frequently referred to as the 4th best player in La Liga, I'd say 5th
