Make the good ordinary, pay the less good as if they had achieved ordinariness and a false equlity is achieved in the hope that this will be repaid with loyalty. Add in a mantra of 'its the taking part rather than winning' that counts espoused by the management over years and hey presto AFC2012.

We can only hope for the men in the team to grow a pair and organise a revolution where winning is the new competing.What is more likely though is early onset wisdom (probably whispered by agebts)leading to ambitious players (financial and sporting) leaving to achieve their goals. All that is left behind is a motley crew of reasonably content good enough players seeing out lucrative contracts happy in the knowlege they arent required to actually win something.
