Some payment must have gone to RVP's agent he wouldn't be setting up a deal for nothing. Ivan's bonus depended on him showing a profit and he needed to sell players to do so.
Sagna and Walcott will be sold either in January or at the end of the season to cover for the two new signings in January - and Henry's wages and insurance cover . That's how Ivan the man who knows the price of everything and the value of nothing operates.
He's also now involved in advising on financial affairs in Europe for 10 other Prem clubs and a clutch of European ones. He supports more football clubs than Nicosia gooner does http://www.awimb.com/images/smiley_icons/smile.gif

Ivan's bonus is dependent on how Arsene manoeuvres the resources. It is ultimately Arsene who calls the shots. Ivan is so lucky to have a financially astute manager who runs the football side of things as though he owns the club. In the end Arsene and Ivan both claim their fair share of the dosh. It is a happy ending after all you see ....

Well Arsene did say big clubs don't sell their best players, but he always seems to find some excuse to justify doing so.

I dont consider Ade a 'big' player and Overmars was quite keen on the move. All the rest (the big ones) wanted out.. Henry, Cesc, RVP, Anelka. The problem with Arsene has been that he has never replaced them with someone of 'similar' quality and this phenomenon has been rather enduring in his tenure forcing good players to look out for greener pastures as soon as they have acquired that star quality (or status) because it doesnt help playing with mediocrity all around you. Why would RVP play week in week out with Ramsey, when the worst he would do so in Manu is Anderson..

Vieira himself tried to join Real Madrid and only stayed after he found out that he wasn't going to get 'galictico' type wages.
Wages are the main problem for us - if clubs pay enough money then they keep their top players . Ivan allows our ones contracts to run down so that when agents come rattling the bars of his cage demanding big pay rises he can then claim that he can't compete with the sort of money being offered by other clubs . And that with the players being out of contract he has no other choice but to sell them or suffer a big financial loss.
I have seen no evidence that Wenger's 7.5m wages depend on him selling players, but then again winning trophies is not obviously a factor either. Otherwise he would be out of a job.

He used to get great replacements When we spent money. I believe there is a link there somewhere.

than what we paid for Cazorla.

It's the market that's changed. Chelsea, City and PSG have inflated the market faster than national rates of inflation.

in those times. But slowly he started looking for basement bargains in every transfer window, one of the things that infuriated Vieira who had started looking out by then..

the problem started much later than that.. IMHO, Keown and Seaman should have never been a part of the 2003 campaign but he persisted with them to save some dosh.
