View Full Version : Dross. Different people have different views on poor signings. This is my take.

Arshavin - very skilful player who was well worth a punt at the price.
Squillaci - total mistake, came on a free but overpaid to not even feature on bench.
Djourou - Not expensive signing, came up through youth ranks and is run of the mill but should not have renewed his contract
Bendtner - Was extremely promising young player and has a fantastic scoring record for Denmark. Rather disappointed he wasn't given a proper run at centre-forward.
Santos - Panic buy. Blame the 8-2 at Manu and the financial "prudence" which lost us first Cole, then Clichy.
Chamakh - Had a good scoring record and started off well. Came on a free. Mystery to me why he was bombed afterwards.
Ramsey - There was virtual unanimity at how good and promising he was when we signed him . His injury and loss of form does not make him a bad signing, what has happened was simply not foreseeable.
Denilson - Looked like he could do a job, then stalled. Perhaps a victim of accumulating too many players with similar build and characteristics.
Rosicky - Poor signing? Do me a favour! A class player who has been spoiled for us by injuries or whatever but most of us were delighted when we signed him. Last season gave us a glimpse of what might have been.
Diaby - Again, who could have foreseen he would be a crock when he arrived? He looked like a more skilful Vieira. And he was cheap.

but on the other you have just agreed that all bar one of these signings were good!

He has bought some dud players and he has also bought some very good ones, some at bargain prices. My criticism is that the way the club has not invested funds to stay closer to our rivals which we could have done with an extra signing or two here and there. It is only the way Wenger brought in players like Vieira, Ljungberg and Henry for modest sums that kept us in contention for so long. We would have been pushed to compete had we had practically any other manager.

Very very generous on Santos I thought.

I'm not sure which side of the coin bores me the most.

The hopelessly lame and complacent - we're doing OK, all things considered, so lets shoot down any argument that wants to explore change.

Or

Why aren't we spending an eye watering fortune on top class players we can't afford.- Wenger out.

But it's still early days in the season, we have one of the very best managers in the world and an improving financial situation, so let's just save the rabblerabblerabble because it achieves precisely f**k all http://www.awimb.com/images/smiley_icons/smile.gif

The next six fixtures look very promising and if we bag all 18pts, the tone will change until it inevitably dips again as we draw nearer to the knock out stages of the CL or we get gubbed by Manure again.. It's all very cyclic

A glorious day where players and fans alike, celebrated as if we'd won the league.

Now, if you genuinely think I "love" a footballer on the basis of 1 isolated goal then you and I need to sit down for 5-6 pints of beer while I put you straight.

I don't think i saw the full game now that I think about it.

Certainly saw the glory glory bit at the end and the resultant celebrations.

At a guess I would think i saw the last 20 mins or so live, I recall it being a lunchtime game so I could very well have sacrificed seeing it live in order to do something en famille.

I will of course have seen it all later on MOTD but you know how things can be hazy on a saturday evening.
