View Full Version : The whole we want our Arsenal back thing - what exactly do they mean?

At which point was it "our Arsenal" I mean, which period would they like to return to?

Though i'm not sure disagreeing with Wenger's substitutions actually constitutes being a disgruntled fan.

a proper football team not an acquisition for a guy who spends $150 million on a ranch but has been to 1 home game since he became the majority shareholder.

should win or challenge for trophies. Bearing in mind the cost of tickets, food, souvenirs and so on it is a legitimate expectation that the club should be in a financially competitive position where investment is made on players.

and is given support financially (to a level that the club can afford) then Stan is doing everything he should be expected to do.

We have challenged for trophies, we just haven't won them

Or does getting to Semi Finals/Finals, being in the title race until March/April not count as challenging?

who can play the football we've played for most of a decade and a half and that's my Arsenal yes. Glorious failures by playing wonderful football and the occasional trophy (won however) will do me nicely.

of City/Chelsea where the owner ploughs in his own cash to hopefully win something?

on huge contracts and the players are just dross.

Our wage bill is £52M per year more than 5pur2 and is not far off from Manure's wage bill.

We HAVE the money. It's just that Wenger spunks it on young prospects and sick-notes...

We wrote off £5M for that S.Korean player.

Free SL
11-30-2012, 10:55 AM
but if we can see we're that close, then so can the manager/club.

The only conclusion to be drawn from that is that the money isn't available, because if it was and we were that close the manager would be under pressure from Stan/Ivan/PHW to put a pot on the sideboard by spending a bit more.

I think criticism of Stan, is a bit harsh here. Just because Abramovich/Mansoor plough hundreds of millions in to their club, it doesn't make him duty bound to do the same.

and ramped up their contracts in the hope they would come good, a lot of those players are coming to the end of their contracts over the next year or 2.

Funnily enough, one of the players that would have been lumped into that group this time last year is now a player everyone is desperate to keep.

Hillary

I don't think we've changed too much as a club, but the difference is Chelsea and, now, Man City. Not only have they as much money as they want to spend on players, but they have actually signed the sorts of players that Wenger would have ordinarily been able to sign. It's not difficult to imagine Hazard signing for us a few years ago - now, not a chance.

Gervinho, Arshavin, Ju Young Park.....

(However - I do like Arshavin and Rosick but meerkat has lost it and TR7 is also one of the walking dead)...

NB: 4TH highest wage bill in the Premiership and most is spunked on dross!

That is fcuking amazing financial prudence from Wenger....

That's my biggest frustration - we are so close.

And for the sake of those 9 or so players in the squad that are dross - we could have 3 or 4 excellent players instead...

think Wenger, and indeed the club, deserves at least some credit for putting us in such a position, given the teams we are "so close" to are so much bigger and, in two cases, bankrolled by billionaires?

Ahhhh those were those.

Who would've thought a Right Wing Back for Ukraine and a short arse right back for Argentina could do that for us??

Vivas was the man. The Elbow on Nicky Butt...he actually had to jump to land it. The time he manned up vs Charlton and took a penalty for us. No one wanted to. He just walked up, took the ball and took it. It was saved. But still pleased he manned up.

My favourite time of watching Arsenal was back when we had Tommy Caton playing centre back and Paul Mariner in midfield. I have never enjoyed going to matches as much as I did in those days. That was very much 'my Arsenal' if I had to be truthful.

We still went unbeaten in the League, won 3 titles, 3 FA Cups and 2 doubles (OK some of that list overlaps, but we were still there watching it happen)

Nothing will ever make that mean nothing.
