If the brand is called league, it makes more sense to have much more of a league format. At the moment we generally have predictable lopsided groups and then it's just a cup competition. Also harder to get undeserving winners if its more league based.

Gradually expanding the knock out rounds. There were two group stages and then a straight final. Then it went to semis and then quarters. Not sure why they went to a 2nd round knockout, it only guarantees the competing clubs 2 matches instead of 6. Maybe too many fixtures

If they are just having one competition, they will lose out on a lot of TV money by only having 4 English teams, as opposed to 4 in the CL and 3 or 4 in the Europa League.

UEFA cannot exclude them altogether, if they open up the qualifying to include 7-8 clubs from the bigger countries (again as alluded to by BGM) then qualifying may begin around March.
