i estimate our shirt deal is about 20 million a season, and stadium naming right about 7 million a year...both are good deals.

the only problem is the length of the stadium naming rights. 16 years is a long time, could be worth double that by then.

but 5 years for the shirt deal is perfect. it will take us to the top 4 in Europe, lets compare to other shirt deals.

Top 10 shirt deals

1. MANCHESTER UNITED £30m (General Motors)

2. BARCELONA £25m (Qatar Foundation)

3. BAYERN MUNICH £23.6m (Deutche Telekom)

4. LIVERPOOL £20m (Standard Chartered)

4. MANCHESTER CITY £20m (Etihad Airways)

4. SUNDERLAND £20m (Invest in Africa)

7. CHELSEA £18m (Samsung)

8. REAL MADRID £16.8m (Bwin)

9. TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR £10m (Autonomy & Investec)

9. AC MILAN £10m (Emirates)

9. NEWCASTLE UNITED £10m (Virgin Money)

something for 22 years a new name. If i called you James for 22 years and you then changed your name to Darren what am i likely to call you? What will you be known as by most people? How long will it take before people start to call you Darren?

that is already known by another name (especially one that is a company name).... Newcastle have had no takers for SJP, so for us to get any money at all is a bonus imho

the idea of anyone paying money for a football stadium that already has a name was a laughable idea in 1995....

and no one would ever pay 7 million a year for a stadium name even if they built it them self in 1995

my point is 7 million a year is a good deal, 16 years is a long time to commit...is that to much of controversy for you? http://www.awimb.com/images/smiley_icons/smile.gif

16 years is way to long to commit though. looking at the development of football finance and the rate of globalization of the game, 16 years is eternity

having a new name every few seasons was bizarre at some stage, no company thought having their name on a shirt previously known by other company was a good idea.

then they realized, commercials is all bout having your names out there right now and ppl forget the past, no different from a tv ad really.

sooner or later they will figure out how to work the stadium names and it wont be long before stadium names will be no different from shirt deals.

that mentality will not get you far pokster.....you need to adjust to the modern world....everything is for sale and everything can be sold

sub concious, so the fact there was a different name there last season makes only a small difference... a stadium is more often only mentioned a couple of times a game, so it holds a lot less commercial value for a sponsor.

the brand name when they wear a shirt in public. A stadium name is mentioned a few times during a match. People don't wear stadiums on their chest displaying the stadium name.

them for the shirt deal. Emirates know it's not worth that much to anyone else.

A goodwill gesture for them giving us the second biggest shirt sponsorship ever.

Emirates have had their moneys worth with the stadium naming rights. That name is etched into the minds of everyone now.

you take what you can now, the shirt sponsorship will ALWAYS be more important than stadium naming

they got the naming rights/shirt sponsorship deal relatively cheaply, now they are paying the true markte worth. Win win

it will take no more than few weeks for everybody to forget about the emirates.

some ppl tried to fight the name emirates and called it ashburton grove for the first couple of months, it didnt work, partly because it was new.....but partly because the official name will take over no matter what.

media, fans, players, the visible signs will make sure the new name is on everybody's lips, call it nike, adidas or reabook stadium, it doesnt really matter. as long as its not a silly website address like newcastle, it will work imo

you could be right in that it could never rival shirt deals, but that was never my point, my point was just like shirt deal increase in values, stadium names will increase in value.

i personally would commit for 7 years, that way we can always command market value. 6 years ago we got 5 million, now we got 7 million...thats 40% increase, in another 6 years it could be worth 10 million....and in another 6 it could be worth 13.....you get my point.

ps. stadiums have something shirt never can offer, its where history is created. i#m 100% sure ppl in marketing will figure out how to milk that.
