The idea that the best way to play against the best players of spin in the world is to serve them a diet of spin is in itself a flawed idea. Ever think why India have such a brilliant home record - partly because every team thinks they have to play loads of spinners against them - they love it. Team with the best recent record in India - South Africa, how many wickets do you think their array of world-class spinners have taken over there?

I'm not talking about playing any spinner, but one that is pretty good and will turn it away from the majority of their batsmen.

As good as they are against spin, Swann is our only wicket taker so the thought process of seam being the way to get them out would appear flawed as well wouldn't it?

but I just don't get Patel as a test player. I don't think he's good enough as a batsman, and he's certainly not good enough as a spinner.

In fact, I would rather they went with Bairstow/Root in the top 6 and told Pietersen he had to be the second spinner.
