Certainly stepped it up in the last couple of years. Pushing himself into Messi/Ronaldo territory now.

my glorious captain from the past would never accept players wearing gloves, that mental strength was why we won 7 world cups.

Many people who don't follow other leagues would judge him solely on that. Obviously by his record he's always produced in domestic championships but some people didn't factor that in when evaluating him purely because they hadn't seen these games or were not interested in watching them

ppl see what they want to see

he was fabulous in 2002 world cup

he did very well in 2004, i still remember that backheal against italy, goal of the tournament

again he did well in 2006

in 2008 i watches swedens games because they were in the same group as cesc' spain....he on his own terrorised spain and scored against them

2010 they didnt qualify

2012 he was exellent in all 3 games and scored the goal off the tournament

Didn't score in 2006 either.

I remember the backheel against Italy.

I mainly remember without going into the specific performances many discussions at previous tournaments about why he can't do it at that level, and against English teams, suggesting he was overrated.

He's done well at some international tournaments though, should have made that point a bit clearer.

At least England were not 4-0 up before the Veggies got on the boil.
