We're a team of mercenaries, brought in for 2-4 year stints. The exact opposite of what Wenger hoped we be when he first started rebuilding from the Invincibles.
Of course a big part of the failure for this is the players. RvP and Song most notably, owed Wenger big time, yet effed off ASAP. Wenger tried to remake Ferguson's team from the early 90's and Arsenal got treated like were were a mid-table team by the players.
A big reason for this of course is that we didn't ever take that extra step - signing those 2 players we were always short of for true competitiveness. And...I...er...defended that decision on a fiscal prudence model at the time, but in hindsight I was wrong. Take longer to pay off the stadium but get the trophy. (Probably not that simple but maybe it is.)
