I dont get why people are so vociferously opposed to wind farms

There seems to be a certain type of person that sees them as a nasty, evil plague spreading across the country, laying waste to idyllic rural beauty spots and irrevocably ruining them with their nasty, sustainable and naturally occurring energy.

I dont get it, wind turbines - however ugly or beautiful you think they are - are essentially temporary structures, it's not like they are open cast mines, oil refineries or coal fired power stations.
