Then I suggest you get an old map with route 66 and compare it to a new one.

66 passes southern rim of Grand Canyon. We had come down from Vegas via Hoover Dam and did the SkyWalk on the Western Rim staying at a ranch where we did a horse ride up to the rim to see the sun set.

Went on the 66 to Flagstaff where we stayed to go see the meteor crater. Really impressive and quite interesting. Worth a look when you are passing.

We then headed south to San Diego and Mexico.

Thinking of doing a shorter 7-10 day trip just at that end. It's a lot of holiday to commit 17 days or something to.

Grand Canyon was amazing. I was prepared for it to be a let down but it was tremendous.

Route 66 starts in Santa Monica I think. I liked it there too. Though didn't have much time there.
