at its core was the quintessential Hero/Anti-Hero story that is a staple in American stories. The loner with a troubled past fights "evil doers" all the while wrestiling with his own demons, his own notion of what is true and just and what is not.

thrown in the fact that in its day its presentation was unique in its frenetic pacing and camera work and you have a hit. Then you do something that was then unconsionable -- KILL OFF beloved characters! DOne all the time now but in its day it was just not something the viewing public had ever seen. So the next time there was peril you weren't so sure that they would survive.

As for your other comment, you should know that there's some reciprocity over here. English slang terms are creeping into our vernacular. On a rather frequent basis you will hear words like "mobile" and "rubbish". I heard a reporter announce a baseball score as 2-nil. FFS!
