Wonder if his confidence was knocked a bit by not returning straight into the first team after his injury and his great performances last season?

he sees a kindred spirit due to his non-nonsense style of defending, whereas he has nothing but contempt for Koseilny's more cultured approach.

He didn't break his leg though did he? Wasn't it a knee injury?

he made a couple of mistakes against Chelsea, can't think of too much wrong with his display at either City (maybe a rash attempted hoof, that fell to Aguero) or home to Olympiacos.

He has only played 3 games.

I think it's a mark of how well Mertesacker has played this season that anyone is even considering saying he's been poor, those mistakes from Koscielny would have been brushed off last season as nothing to worry about.

player to the final touch for each.

I think the ball should have been stopped each time before it even reached Kos. For the first, David Luiz had an entirely free jump infront of Kos and for the second the ball came quite low through a very big space infront of him too.

Can you think of any?

as much as how well Per has played this. Kos is not at the same level as last season for sure currently.

card as he was being stretchered off

so maybe calling them mistakes is being harsh on him, just the way it seemed at the time.

and they didn't reorganise things properly in time for the free kick.

Kos was watching the ball rather than the man which gave Torres the edge on that one.
The second looked like one of those where he aimed to put it behind for a corner but it ended up the wrong side of the 'back stick'.
I think the keeper could have come for it, tbh.

'I didn't send him off because being stretchered off was punishment itself'

whilst keeping to the man.
All down to whether the defensive preference is for zonal or man marking, I suppose.

Mind you, looking back Roger Milford looks like a f**king genius compared to some we have today

but you also need to know where the ball is. Koscielny obviously new where Torres was as he was wrestling with him. I think rather than blaming him for watching the ball, you can blame him for not being strong enough. Torres outmuscled him. I don't think it was all Koscielny's fault though -
