so all-consuming and non-negotiable.

I genuinely feel sorry for women with football-loving partners.

This lass that comes home and the place smells ****ty. Turns out the lad in the house is watching footie on the TV from the toilet, whilst having a shyte and drinking beer. Very funny, imo.

Like my dad did. And like I'm doing now. I've told the missus - you WILL play golf.

Not necessarily with me, she can play with her mates, but golf WILL be our leisure activity from now on.

Bit harsh, she doesn't have too play - but she won't see much of me then. It's a generous offer from me. Our holidays will be golf based.

I used to disappear for 6-7 hours every second saturday and arrive home drunk and quite useless.

Not ideal. I suppose I was quite selfish but then we were very, very good back then.

Not exactly shoe buying, but she suggested I could adopt her interests. I said no. Well, sure, I'll go running with you, or hiking in the mountains. But I will play golf too, and you're invited to come along.

There is more to the story, though. She used to play golf before we got kids. And she loved it. She's just forgotten that she loved it, and needs to be reminded.

We will go up together, she will play with her mates, I will play with mine. Then we'll have dinner together at the club house.

Then she will gradually start going on golf trips with her mates, and I will with mine.

If we weren't so useless, they'd want us around a lot more. but they know we'll just sit around and sulk coz we'd rather be watching the footy.

Double edged sword.

My son doesn't like it. He's a runner. I love watching him compete and train though, so I won't let my golf affect my time with him.

And it wouldn't make them any less useless, in any case. The women would still want/need to have them out of the way occasionally.

You really need to stop thinking of men as being a slightly different version of women. And probably vice versa.

Monty91

a man could be trusted to do it competently and without moaning, he would always be wanted around.

Of course, having your own interests and time apart is perfectly healthy too, but my point is that football is all-consuming, not only when you are out of the house but often when you're in it too. Women cannot escape it and it's not fair.

taking my boys to a match is just as important for her as it is for us. This acceptance, understanding and necessity is built into the relationship from the beginning.

If my BH didn't like the fact that I have all-consuming hobbies, she would presumably have had nothing to do with me in the first place and she would've gone off with one of your many blokes who don't have a-c hobbies.

Like I said, it is the way of things.

Hopefully no-one on Awimb is. But they do exist. I know a few myself and I have seen the fall-out.

And adverts like the ones Guns & Roses posted perpetuate the idea that putting football before everything else is not only acceptable, but endearing.
