The hand injury that put Naseem Hamed out for a long time was accrued when he punched a bouncer at a Sheffield Nightclub and broke his fist not a training injury as reported

Him fail because he's a [racist term removed], which is a shame.

He is the one boxer I wish I had been old enough to go and see while he was still in his prime (and boxing). Sure he had his flaws, but the demolitions he handed out in his prime were masterclasses in strutting, controlled aggression.

Hitting someone in the head bare knuckled is like hitting a wall, I presume?

You are right about seeing him as a fighter - wonderful talent. Never saw him live but I was in LA when he fought in the states and even though it was a ridiculous time the tv room of the hostel I was staying was packed

in many ways bare knuckle fighting was safer as you couldn't punch as hard without doing damage to your fist

he just wasn't as good as he thought. Same thing with Khan and Kevin Mitchell, put them in with a good boxer who can punch and they're f**ked.

It'll be interesting to see if either Khan or Mitchell can come back from thier last loss, something Hamed never really managed.

a knuckle that's dangerous, it's the rapid movement of your brain inside the skull when hit by - as you said - a begloved hand.

Losing the man who was essentially a father to him in Brendan Ingle was a blow that Hamed never recovered from.

I will admit that he was a flawed fighter though, and that was primarily down to his suspect balance. But I still think that at his best he could have brought a lot more to the Barrera fight than he did.

Been there, done that. I don't think I ever wish to go back to Russia.

and I know Sharm El Sheikh was always a bit of a hole but it's dreadful now, not just the Russians mind

and a few of the Americans around at the time and Middle/Super-Middle was the weight to watch for great fights.

He relied far too much on his reflexes, he never worked on a solid defence. He looked awesome when throwing puches from weird angles with the power he had, but at the true world level was found out as a bit of a limited boxer.

There is no shame in that, he was good (probably very good), but not great.
