View Full Version : Has anyone got any off-the-beaten-track suggestions for things to see/do in Paris?

I was looking into a cruise along the St Martin's Canal, which sounds like it is a bit more interesting than your standard 2 hours along the Seine listening to a bored student with a megaphone pointing out famous landmarks to your left and right, and actually provides a bit of a potted history of the backstreets of the city instead.

Anyone by any chance done it?

I'd like to go to Paris but I am sure there would be an expectation on any girls part that she is going to be proposed to when told she is being taken there.

I took the then girlfriend and now Mrs to Barcelona once on a similar experience. Thing is I told her the night before so at least it was less manic.

I've made an excuse for why we have to get up so early already, so she's not gonna be woken up unexpectedly. But she thinks we're going to babysit my nieces.

How did your missus respond?

She only found out at the check-in desk @ Heathrow at which point the lady stuck us on First Class, only a short flight but very pleasant.

She had initally just thought it was somewhere in the UK when we went to Paddington.

Huge brownie points.

Still waiting for it to be reciprocated.

Wd Monty, very romantic.
