View Full Version : What are we to do with Gervinho?

Giroud could go on now he's broken his league duck, and his overall play was very good at West Ham.

Theo chomping at the bit too to start a game.

Gervinho is like the new Sylvain Wiltord. Frustrating, inconsistent, but will then pop up with an important goal or two.

But that's two really bad games he's had recently, at City and West Ham.

And in the city game he scored a peach of an equaliser

was excellent. If a striker can't do anything right outside the box but still scores a hattrick, he is lauded http://www.awimb.com/images/smiley_icons/shrug.gif

So in the final analysis who cares if he may have linked up play well or not on that occasion?

valuable asset and not to be sniffed at, regardless of his own ability to finish them. We do not have many players in the squad capable of his speed of movement and direct running.

anything else was a half-chance at best

from the edge of the box was a good chance. It was a terrible, terrible shot.

But I still think we're seeing a player who's not entirely confident that he can play at this level. If and when that comes, we will see his finishing improve too...

Still not quite sure where that finish against Chelsea came from

shades of Henry, took it early and bent it beautifully

tbh, I think he might be worth what he's asking for. If not least just to secure the asset.

Many of the good things he does could be done from wider out (though he still drifts out there anyway even if he is supposed to be the central player) If he is to be a "striker", his finishing qualities would be under more scrutiny. Still scored a few this year to be fair.

And then there's Giroud. He would be more of a focal point up front and bring different qualities, and hopefully now he's scored in the league he will score a few too. So if he plays in the middle you're talking Gerv or Theo for the one remaining slot. Theo is good as an impact sub, and there's his contract situation too, so Gerv probably stays in anyway but back out wider.

didn't think for a minute he'd miss
