West Ham fans and there was a sense of justice that the Frenchman was able to celebrate at the final whistle.

But it is clear some of the problems that John Terry’s disciplinary case highlighted so vividly on the pitch also still exist off it.

There can be few more depressing sights than to see a man very audibly abused for simply trying to do his job or right-minded fans having to listen to moronic idiots.

Wenger was damned either way. Members of the crowd had turned up to abuse him no matter what and that is simply unacceptable – just as Terry’s behaviour towards Anton Ferdinand and Cole’s abusive tweet about the FA were.
