IF we had kept RVP would we be stronger, would we in fact have a serious chance of winning the title? If yes then Van Persie is a selfish greedy little **** if not as you were...

Hillary

so it's a bit of a pointless question.

not at City, not at Chelsea....but United, who don't have petro-dollars but do have a manager who has refused to accept that 4th place and no cups is good enough

Peter

As opposed to the clubs who have only recently been ableto outspend us.

Lets not start making out that united are financially comparable to us. They never have been.

We will never know whether robin left for the silver or the gold but at united he has a better chance of both. Thus, a no-brainer for him.

then he probably would have gone elsewhere.

Hillary

It's possible, but you can't base your strategy on such unlikely scenarios.

However, it is perfectly feasible that his transfer away could have broken down at some point, due to whatever factor, breaking down in pre-season, for instance.
I'm still pleasantly surprised that United stumped up the £22+ million that they did.

One isonly being asked to imagine this team with van persie in it. It isnt a huge leap

RvP would leave at the end of this season for nothing and we'd have paid another year's salary to him we wouldn't have accounted for.

Potentially it would have caused problems with our new players who would play less.

It would not have been an absolute disaster, but would have set us back a few years at least, for the price of a slightly better chance at a pot this season.

And that van Persie's staying would mean no new players. Considering the squad needed strengthening anyway and that van Persie's future was pretty much unknown until the release of his statement I find it hard to believe Wenger wasn't already planning to buy without even factoring in his departure.

His leaving and our spending is not linked IMO, yet people are talking as though its fact that we wouldn't have signed the three players had he stayed.

If you win every game 4-0, they'll be someone complaining you didn't score 5.

The statement from Grimandi as much as admitting same.

The others who knows but even without the sale of van Persie one could argue that Song's sale was in part balancing of the books so the original assertion that players leaving and spending is linked is probably true.

It's rich anyway coming from a bloke who refuses to realise how the landscape of English football has changed or see the remarkable job Wenger has done to keep Arsenal where they are. Look at your beloved Liverpool to see just how easy it is to fall, you sad bitter little man
